The Braun Series 3 Trimmer is an entry level model to Braun’s main trimmer line. The Series 3 comes in various packages (with varying amounts of accessories) with prices ranging between $20 and $30 depending on what kit you get (trimmer only, 3 in one, 5 in one). Generally the “extras” included in these kits usually amount to extra junk in the drawer. At this price point the Series 3 is on the very low end of what you would expect to pay for a trimmer.

As an avid grooming enthusiast, I have had the pleasure of using this trimmer extensively. In this in-depth review, I will share my personal experience and insights to help you make an informed decision about this product. Let's dive in!

Who is this trimmer for?

The Series 3 is a suitable option as a first trimmer for a young adult that is just getting started trimming. Its low price point and limited cutting range are a good fit for those trimming very short beards and body hair. To see how it stacks

Who is this trimmer NOT for?

If you have owned a few low priced trimmers and are looking for something nicer, this isn’t it. It also won’t work for those with longer beards or those interested in trimming their own hair.

How does it compare to other Braun trimmers

The 3 series is the lowest price option in the Braun trimmer line but was surprisingly similar to their more expensive trimmers.

Design and Features

The Braun Beard Trimmer 3 showcases a minimalist design with one button operation and single charge indicator light. It's lightweight and very quiet compared to most trimmers.

The trimmer's key feature lies in its adjustable guard, offering a limited overall range but a good number of  trimming lengths from 1mm to 10mm with half-millimeter increments in between. This adaptability allows users to achieve shorter beard styles with precision. The limit to 10 mm may be too short for those looking to maintain longer beard styles.

The blade did seem to cut well but I was disappointed to see that Braun uses a stamped stainless steel blade. We have generally found that this style of blade does not stay sharp for very long.

Pros:

Here are the key pros of this trimmer.

Beginner-Friendly Design

The Braun Beard Trimmer 3 is designed with simplicity in mind. Its lightweight and quiet operation make it ideal for beginners who prefer an uncomplicated grooming experience.

Adjustable Trimmer Guard

The trimmer comes with a versatile guard that can be adjusted from 1mm to 10mm, with half-millimeter increments in between. This allows you to achieve your desired beard length with ease.

Dual Functionality

You have the option to use the trimmer with or without the guard. This versatility enables you to touch up the edges and achieve a closer shave where needed.

Easy Maintenance

Cleaning the trimmer is a breeze with the included brush. Additionally, you can remove the blade for thorough cleaning and oiling, ensuring longevity and optimal performance.

Affordable Price

Priced at just $25 online, the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 offers excellent value for its functionality and performance.

Cons:

Ok, now let's get to the overall cons of the Braun trimmer 3.

Limited Length Range

The trimmer's maximum length of 10mm may not be sufficient for those with longer beards, as it does not accommodate lengths beyond that. Individuals with longer beard preferences might find this limiting.

Undersized Battery

The light weight of the trimmer is mainly due to its small (NiMH) battery which provides 80 min of run time per charge. An undersized battery may lead to limited trimmer life as

Limited for longer hair

If you find yourself with a longer beard or you plan on using this trimmer for hair, then you might be disappointed. The maximum cutting length at only 10 mm is very short for those applications.

Weird Color Choice

Personal preferences may vary, but some users, including myself, might not be particularly fond of the shade of blue chosen for the trimmer's design.

A Basic Yet Functional Design

I found the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 sports a simple and ergonomic design, perfect for users seeking an uncomplicated grooming tool. Its is also fairly lightweight compared to other trimmers - while this doesn’t “feel” like quality it can make the trimmer easier to handle. The minimalistic approach focuses on essential features, making it an ideal choice for beginners or those with straightforward grooming needs.

A Quiet Operator

I noticed one of the standout features of the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 is its near-silent operation. This is something to consider if you wake up early before your partner. The quiet motor ensures a discreet and relaxing trimming session, whether you're at home or on the go.

Adjustable Trimmer Guard

Equipped with an adjustable trimmer guard, the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 offers a lot of trimming lengths over a fairly small range of trimming lengths. From a close 1mm trim to a more substantial 10mm length. Unlike other trimmers with removable guards and large length gaps, you can achieve your desired beard style with half-millimeter precision in between. The adjustable guard caters to a variety of preferences and facial hair types but isn’t the best option for longer beards and haircuts.

Short Trimming

Like most trimmers, The Trimmer 3 can be used without the adjustable guard to cut at its shortest length. The metal blade is fixed at around .5 mm which is about average for most trimmers of this style. This is how you will want to use the trimmer for refining and shaping your beard's edges and trimming your neck and cheek hair.

Easy Maintenance

I found cleaning and maintaining the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 is fairly easy compared to other trimmers. The detachable blade facilitates thorough cleaning and oiling.

Budget-Friendly and Great Value

At an affordable price point of $25 online, the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 delivers outstanding value for its functionality and performance. If you need a decent trimmer on a budget, this trimmer provides a cost-effective solution without too many compromises on quality.

Limitations for Longer Beard Styles

While the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 excels at catering to most grooming needs, it falls short for those desiring longer beard styles. With a maximum length of 10mm, individuals with preferences beyond this range might find the trimmer limiting.

Needs a Few More Accessories

As a minor consideration, having a small bottle of trimmer oil included in the box would have been advantageous. Nevertheless, obtaining oil separately is a simple task, ensuring the trimmer's long-term performance and durability.

A quirky Style

The Braun Beard Trimmer 3 boasts a unique design, but personal color preferences may differ. Some users, including myself, might not favor the shade of blue chosen for the trimmer's aesthetics.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 is a good option for those seeking a budget-friendly, no-frills grooming tool. The 3 series is the least expensive in the Braun Beard Trimmer line and has many of the same elements in the more expensive 5 and 7 series. The simple one button design, adjustable trimmer guard, and easy maintenance make it an ideal choice for beginners or individuals looking for a straightforward trimming experience. Priced at just $25, this trimmer offers remarkable value, and is one of the better trimmers at this price point.

The trimmer’s limitations include the relatively small cutting range topping out at 10 mm, its small battery which may limit the lifespan of the product to just a few years and the stamped stainless steel blade which also wouldn’t last more than a few years.

While it may not cater to those with longer beard preferences and lacks some accessories, the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 delivers on its promise of simplicity and functionality. The 3 series is best suited for those new to trimming and with smaller amounts of hair. Given the value and funct, I would recommend the Braun Beard Trimmer 3 for those seeking a reliable and affordable grooming solution. Happy grooming!
